Closing the Distance, for Scelsi's MANTO (2026)

for violin and viola, w/ Victor Guaita

‘Closing the Distance’ is a piece where violin and viola are treated into becoming one transintrumnet. Their individualities and distinctions are preserved, but then expanded through use of scordatura and continuous detuning in relation to one another and collective sonic effect their timbral expansions and diminutions in tuning produce. The piece operates on several layers of contemplation on what farness and proximity can be. Distances of timbre, time, and space are being traced through macro and micro stratas. Moving these individual layers parallel to each other or in opposite direction, a creation of space-time that is a blend where distance and closeness can be felt simultaneously occurs.

‘Closing the Distance’ is dejana's and Victor's collective work and composition.
